I just upgraded to Windows 10 and almost all of my desktop icons are missing. I can only see three icons on my desktop and they are spaced out with 1 huge line at a time. When I select 1 icon, the entire row of my desktop gets highlighted. I have never seen anything like this before. I read your article on ' How to Fix: Windows 10 Desktop Icons Missing ', and have ensured that my system is not in Tablet Mode, so I don't know why my Windows 10 desktop icons are missing.
Can you help? Admittedly, I was perplexed Marilyn's question and offered to help through my remote desktop support service.
Sure enough, the only icons on her desktop were two documents and one image - there was nothing else on the screen.
Desktop Icons May Be Displayed Incorrectly When You Change Display Settings
I offered to investigate the problem further, but Marilyn had to leave for a meeting and so we disconnected our session. She then emailed me back shortly after to say that she found a solution to her problem:. Apparently, the option to set the Windows desktop icon spacing has been removed from Windows 8 and 10 via the desktopand the only way to adjust this option is to modify the registry.
When I did that, I found that my icon spacing was set towhereas the default should be set to I'm not sure how this got changed, but I set it to the default setting, and everything went back to normal.
Go figure! Thank you Marilyn for emailing the solution. I reviewed the link that Marylin provided on how to edit the Windows registry in order to adjust icon spacing horizontal and verticalbut figured it would be easier to find a freeware program that would do the same; unfortunately two of the programs I tried didn't work on my system.
As such I will provide two alternative solutions. This should fix the spacing problem. If it does not, then you will have to use the registry edit described next. I need more computer questions. Change Desktop Icon Spacing in Windows 10
Desktop icon spacing has troubled people a lot. This happens when your windows desktop is having a lot of icons and you keep searching for the one added a few days back or the most recently added icon or for that matter any other desktop icon. You would have then felt that the desktop icons are too crowded and it would have been better to have them spaced a little more distant from each other.
One advantage of Windows operating systems is that you can create a shortcut to any application, file or folder and store it on the desktop, for future easy access. They are known as desktop icons. Over a period of time, the number of desktop shortcut icons keeps growing and it becomes difficult to find out not so frequently used ones or to find out the one added a few seconds back. Still having this issue now 4 months after this was posted in August of now. From what I've noticed it's only when dragging groups of icons and when dragging them to the edge of the screen.
The Reg-edit fix is not solving it for me. I set me IconSpacing both Vertical and not to Screen resolution for me is x However I am not sure if that's the correct setting for my resolution. And since there is no chart if one is neededthen I don't know if it's the right iconspacing values.
It's really sad that this is even a problem. I first had this problem on my laptop after updating to the Windows 10 creator's edition. I found that I did not need to change the Horizontal Spacing, so that is still set as I had it at You will need to log off and back on again for the changes to be used which Winaero prompts you to do and gives you the option to do so within the program.

So if you go to a lower value likethe text will actually get cut off:. For some reason, the vertical spacing key works slightly differently. As you can see, the bounding boxes are all small, but the actual space between the icons has increased when I changed the value to for IconVerticalSpacing.
You can also mess around with other values under the WindowMetrics key. For example, I changed the BorderWidth to 25 instead of This makes the border of any window 25 pixels! The range of values here is 0 to 50 pixels.Destiny 2 menagerie boss rotation schedule 2020
